About the PWPW buildingThe PWPW headquarters at Sanguszki Street was built in the second half of the 1920s in the functionalist style according to the design of Antoni Dygat. It was one of the largest buildings in Warsaw at that time.During the defensive war of 1939, the factory was not destroyed. Under the occupation, she worked for the General Government until the Warsaw Uprising. On August 2, the building was taken over by the insurgents and held for almost a month. The factory became a redoubt protecting access to the Old Town, but also a hospital and an anti-tank bottle factory. The building was significantly destroyed during the German attack and after the Uprising. In 1945, the building was deemed unsuitable for reconstruction, and PWPW production was moved to Łódź. Despite protests that this modernist building did not fit into the surroundings of the New Town, the decision was made to rebuild it. The work lasted between 1946 and 1950, but in 1948 production returned to Sanguszki Street and is still held in the same building today.
